Top 10 Uses of Utility Trailers

  • September
  • 10

There are many reasons why it is a good idea to invest in a well constructed utility trailer. While you may think that we will only use a utility trailer a handful of times, the truth is that once you have a trailer, you will find more uses for it than we can imagine.

Simply put, a utility trailer is any type of non motorized trailer that attaches to your vehicle so that you can haul whatever you need to. Utility trailers can be either enclosed or open; they can be large or small; and they can be simple or elaborately styled to match your towing vehicle.

1. Automobiles: From time to time it becomes necessary to haul an inoperable car or truck. Tow trucks are expensive, especially if the distance is great. A utility trailer is a great way to haul vehicles and a good investment if you need to do so regularly.

2. Boats: If you have a boat, you will need a utility trailer to get it to and from the water.

3. Lawn Care Equipment: If we live in a rural area, you may find that you need to haul your mowing equipment from one piece of your property to another. Packing equipment and loading it into a pickup truck bed can get old very quickly. A utility trailer will allow you to drive your equipment right up onto the trailer without the aid of ramps or two strong men.

4. Furniture: Moving furniture is a breeze with a utility trailer. Furniture dollies roll right up onto the trailer and we can haul more than can with a pickup.

5. Building Supplies: Do you have projects that need to be done around the house? Pick up your own building supplies and save on delivery fees.

6. Bikes, Motorcycles, and ATVs: Recreational vehicles are best hauled on a utility trailer.

7. Livestock: An enclosed utility trailer is most often used to haul livestock.

8. Auction and Flea Markets: If you frequent auctions and flea markets, you will need the hauling capability to bring home your inexpensive and rare finds.

9. Appliances: Utility trailers are ideal for hauling appliances.

10. Debris and Trash: Loading trash in and out of your pickup bed can be cumbersome and clean up can be messy, but it would be worse to have to haul trash in your SUV. Clean up after a big job is a lot easier with a utility trailer.

Best Fuel Economy For The Buck

  • September
  • 10

As car buyers are drawn to more fuel-efficient cars, a common challenge people face is how to get the most gas mileage for the money. Hybrids car, for example, typically deliver the best fuel economy in their respective classes, but they sell for a premium. This begs the question: Is it better for your bank account to buy a small, less-expensive non-hybrid that still provides good, if not great, fuel economy?

If your goal in getting better fuel economy is to make every dollar count, the following list can guide to some of today’s best buys. Of the more than 260 vehicles that we’ve recently tested, these are the 10 cars that provide the best combination of low purchase price and high fuel economy.

To get this list, we divided the as-tested price (including options and destination charge) for each vehicle we’ve recently tested by the car’s overall mpg (including city and highway) in our fuel-economy tests. This tells the price will pay for each mpg.

But gas mileage isn’t everything. So, to ensure we aren’t guiding to cars that are mediocre in other areas, we selected only ones that meet our stringent criteria in performance, reliability and safety for being recommended. And to make sure the cars aren’t going to blindside with high ownership costs. we selected only models that earn an excellent owner-cost rating.

Drawing on a price that’s under $16,000 and good fuel economy in the low-to-mid 30’s, both versions of the Honda Fit we’ve tested topped the list. That shows that can pay more for a car with higher gas-mileage numbers (such as the Toyota Prius), but you won’t necessarily get better fuel economy for the buck.

If want a roomier car than the subcompact Fit, several compact cars made the list, including the Mazda3, Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra. And, despite their higher cost, three hybrids — two versions of the Toyota Prius, and the Honda Civic Hybrid — made the list, based on stellar fuel economy results.

The lowest price per mpg in our analysis came from the Toyota Yaris and Hyundai Accent car with manual transmissions ($370 and $425, respectively). But because they scored too low in our tests to be recommended, they didn’t make the cut. Which cars are highest? With the Dodge Viper SRT10 and Mercedes-Benz SL550, will pay more than $6,000 for every mile-per-gallon. And have to feed these engines premium fuel, as well.

Essential RV Knowledge

  • September
  • 9

The problem with researching the world of RVing is not a lack of information. RV accessory stores, public libraries and the internet are loaded with facts, figures and opinions about RVs and RVing. The challenge is in sifting through all the information available and sorting out what is really essential to know in order to choose, operate and enjoy an RV.

RVs fall into two basic categories, towed and self-propelled. Towed RVs include folding trailers, conventional travel trailers and fifth-wheel trailers. Self-propelled RVs encompass motorhomes, van-conversions and trucks with slide-in campers. Become familiar with the different types of RVs, their advantages, disadvantages and price ranges.

All vehicles, including cars, trucks, trailers and motorhomes, have a limit to the amount of weight they can carry and/or tow. If we are going to be an RVer, it is important that know how to determine any vehicle’s weight rating, tow rating and net carrying capacity.

Potential trailer owners should learn how to determine their car or truck’s load carrying and towing capabilities. Towing a trailer whose fully loaded weight exceeds the rating and/or capability of the tow vehicle is flirting with disaster.

Motorhome owners need to learn how much weight (including the weight of the passengers) they can safely load into their motorhome. Overloading is frequently the cause of tire failure and blowouts.

Motorhome owners may also want to learn what is involved with towing a car or truck. They should become familiar with each towing method; dolly, trailer and four wheels on the ground. They should also know if the towing method they choose is approved by the car’s manufacturer.

Any RVer who plans on towing anything should learn about trailer hitches, their classifications and limitations.

The discussion of diesel versus gasoline will go on forever. Learn the benefits of both. Compare the capabilities and costs of each. Given the choice, you may discover that a gasoline engine will do the job just fine and cost a whole lot less. On the other hand, the type, size and weight of the RV select may not give  any option but the diesel engine.

Front Loader Is A Type Of Tractor

  • September
  • 8

Also known as a front end loader, bucket loader, scoop loader, or shovel, the front loader is a type of tractor that is normally wheeled and uses a wide square tilting bucket on the end of movable arms to lift and move material around.

The loader assembly may be a removable attachment or permanently mounted on the vehicle. Often times, the bucket can be replaced with other devices or tools, such as forks or a hydraulically operated bucket.

Larger style front loaders, such as the Caterpillar 950G or the Volvo L120E, normally have only a front bucket and are known as front loaders, where the small front loaders are often times equipped with a small backhoe as well and called backhoe loaders or loader backhoes.

Loaders are primarily used for loading materials into trucks, laying pipe, clearing rubble, and also digging. Loaders aren’t the most efficient machines for digging, as they can’t dig very deep below the level of their wheels, like the backhoe can.

The deep bucket on the front loader can normally store around 3 - 6 cubic meters of dirt, as the bucket capacity of the loader is much bigger than the bucket capacity of a backhoe loader.

Loaders aren’t classified as excavating machinery, as their primary purpose is other than moving dirt.

In construction areas, mainly when fixing roads in the middle of the city, front loaders are used to transport building materials such as pipe, bricks, metal bars, and digging tools.

Front loaders are also very useful for snow removal as well, as you can use their bucket or as a snow plow. They can clear snow from the streets and highways, even parking lots. They will sometimes load the snow into dump trucks which will then haul it away.

Unlike the bulldozer, most loaders are wheeled and not tracked. The wheels will provide better mobility and speed and won’t damage paved roads near as much as tracks, although this will come at the cost of reduced traction.

Unlike backhoes or tractors fitted with a steel bucket, large loaders don’t use automotive steering mechanisms, as they instead steer by a hydraulically actuated pivot point set exactly between the front and rear axles. This is known as articulated steering and will allow the front axle to be solid, therefore allowing it to carry a heavier weight.

Articulated steering will also give a reduced turn in radius for a given wheelbase. With the front wheels and attachment rotating on the same axis, the operator is able to steer his load in an arc after positioning the machine, which can come in quite handy. The problem is that when the machine is twisted to one side and a heavy load is lifted high in the air, it has a bigger risk of turning over.

Heavy Duty Truck AB Volvo

Heavy Duty Truck Manufacturing; 333120 Construction Machinery Manufacturing; 333618 Other Engine Equipment Manufacturing; 336412 Aircraft Engine and Engine Parts Manufacturing

The largest company it’s revenue terms and the biggest employer in that nation’s private sector, AB Volvo is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks and buses. The firm’s truck operations, which include Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks, and Mack Trucks, produced nearly 156,000 trucks. In buses, where Volvo holds the number two position worldwide, production topped 7,800. In addition, Volvo is the world’s largest manufacturer of heavy diesel engines and the fourth largest producer of construction equipment, produces engines for leisure boats and power generating equipment, and makes components for aircraft and rocket engines. The company sold its Volvo automaking business to Ford Motor Company in order to focus on commercial vehicles.

Production of what had been Sweden’s only domestically built automobile to concentrate on more profitable trucks. A year later, with the encouragement of the Swedish Association of Engineers and Architects, SKF began a confidential study of the feasibility of manufacturing its own car.who had represented SKF in France and the United States, was a ball bearing salesperson who had closely studied American automobiles. Larson was an engineer with substantial experience in Britain, having worked for the English company White & Poppe.

After agonizing over dozens of designs, the two partners settled on a simple model that would negotiate Swedish roads, with their snow, mud, steep hills, and millions of potholes, especially well. The original design, a car called the GL, or “Larson,” was assembled at an abandoned SKF ball bearing factory at Hisingen, near Göteborg, from parts ordered out of various supplier catalogs from throughout Europe and the United States.

The first production model, an öV4, later called the “Jakob,” rolled out of the factory. To the horror of all involved, it was discovered that the differential had been misconnected, resulting in a car that had three gears in reverse and only one gear for forward motion. The mistake took only ten minutes to correct and Volvo survived the comical episode.

With 60 workers turning out five cars a week, the company proceeded with plans to manufacture a truck. The first truck model, introduced, was, in fact, from a design that predated the GL by four months. Volvo trucks, equipped with in-line six-cylinder engines, became extremely popular. Whereas auto sales remained slow and their profits only marginal, the truck models consistently sold out. Profits from truck sales financed the operation for the next 20 years.

When Buying an RV, It is Worth it to Shop Around

  • September
  • 8

In Hollywood, the cross-country family trip is often used as an easy way to get laughs. Most people chuckle when they picture Chevy Chase’s poor family crammed into the metallic pea Griswold family station wagon from National Lampoon’s Vacation, even as we sympathize. After all, how many of us were forced to sit for hours “on the hump” in the back of the family sedan with two siblings complaining bitterly each time one of your legs crossed into “their space”? And all of this in the guise of taking a fun family vacation!

Certainly, cars have continued to become more comfortable and luxurious with each passing year, and the number of SUVs available means it is no longer a necessity to take the family’s compact car on vacation at all. Let’s be honest though, if you’ve ever sat in the back of an SUV (or any car) with two other people, it stops feeling comfortable after the first twenty minutes or so. For this reason along with countless others, many families choose to skip the driving experience entirely and schedule a flight instead. However, with escalated airport security resulting in long delays, cramped seating on the planes, limits to what can be carried on the plane, and maybe even a touch of nostalgia for the car trips of our youth, the siren song of the open road begins to have increasing appeal.

No longer the gaudy rolling trailers with cheap fixtures and cramped spaces that many people picture. Imagine those rolling luxury hotels that rock stars travel in with features like plush carpeting, ceramic tile, cabinets designated to store wineglasses, LCD televisions, retractable awnings, and even storage for motorcycles. Many of them have a level of opulence so enthralling that you’ll be tempted to live in it, even while it’s parked in your driveway! The added bonus is that you never have to deal with the hassles of staying in a hotel, such as checkout times, missing reservations, or noisy people in the adjoining room.

Once you decide to purchase a RV, the next choice is the model. There are multiple manufacturers of motor homes including Gulf Stream, Fleetwood, Winnebego rv, Holiday Rambler and more. With such a large array, it’s important to do a lot of research into what features you want and the reliability of the various manufactures.

Now that you’ve found your dream vehicle, you are probably ready to jump right in and purchase it. After all, when you are buying something new, there can’t be that much of a variation in price from dealership to dealership, right? Surprisingly, the cost variance when comparing new motor homes with identical features can actually be more than the disparities you’d find when buying used recreational vehicles with vast mileage differences. As an example, Gulf Stream Crescendo Model 8386 was $186,360.00 in Oregon, but it was over $26,000.00 less at the Pennsylvania dealership, Martinsburg RV.we don’t even have to drive across the country to find such vast price range. The difference between the cost of a RV purchased in Ohio and Michigan can be anywhere from a few thousand dollars to over twenty thousand dollars. Even with the soaring cost of gas, it’s well worth the trip to save that much money.

Hybrid Sports Cars Coming Soon

  • September
  • 8

When one thinks of hybrid automobiles, the image of subcompact economy cars-high on gas mileage and low on top-end performance-undoubtedly comes to mind. However, with gas prices consistently increasing over time, occasionally in sudden spikes, and environmental awareness growing in all quarters, there is a movement afoot to bring hybrid technology into the realm of high-performance sports cars.

Automakers seem to be expending a great deal of effort in fusing hybrid technology with sports car appearance and performance. the Mazda Ibuki and Mitsubishi’s hybrid in its Eclipse line are all progressing in development.

Most of the hybrid research and development currently focuses on adopting the most common hybrid production methods. Lithium batteries and electric motors join forces with top-notch engineering. Preliminary reports indicate that at least one 470 horsepower sports car is under design by a leading manufacturer.

In addition to hybrid sports car working from the same general principles of their better-known economy car brethren, hydrogen-burning sports cars are also under investigation. Many years ago, Mazda discovered their rotary engine performed exceptionally well while using lean-burning hydrogen as a fuel source. Since that time, Mazda has continued to tinker with this revolutionary methodology in hopes of eventually producing an environmentally friendly sports car that maintains high performance standards.

The most visible hybrid sports car, however, is the Toyota Priapus. A conventional gas/electric hybrid, the Priapus lists at over $70,000. It will be hard for owners of this hybrid sports car to recoup the additional cost in fuel savings, but the automobile is increasing in popularity. Experts predict the limited-production hybrid sports car will perform well in auctions, with car enthusiasts likely to be willing to spend into six figures to procure the low-to-the ground, futuristic Toyota offering-and with good reason. The Priapus boasts zero to sixty mile per hour acceleration in just under four seconds while maintaining an impressive 30 miles per gallon in terms of fuel efficiency.

They are not the only automakers to spend time and resources plumbing the realm of hybrid sports cars. Two former designers are making headlines in England with the development of a V10 hybrid that has recently been awarded significant capital in the form of government grants to bring the concept car into the general marketplace.

With many nations’ fuel efficiency standards demanding better fuel economy in the future, gas prices spiking again and again, and a general consensus developing that hybrid technology can reduce pollution and perhaps stem global warming trends, there is no doubt that hybrid automobile research and production will continue to accelerate.

Caterpillar Equipment Is Very Useful Equipment

  • September
  • 5

Caterpillar Equipment Incorporated, also known as CAT is a United States based corporation that is based in Peoria, Illinois. The company commonly known as CAT is known around the world as the largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines.

Well known and famous for their products that feature the Caterpillar track and distinctive yellow paint, CAT produces a wide range of heavy equipment for all types of jobs, including the very popular Caterpillar D9 bulldozer.

History The story of CAT dates back to the late 19th century, when Daniel Best and Benjamin Holt were experimenting with different ways to fulfil the promise that steam tractors held for farm work.

Prior to 1925, the Holt family had pioneered track tractors and gasoline powered engines. After the companies of Best and Holt were merged, the company went through several changes then at the end of World War 2, they began to grow at a very fast pace, launching the first venture outside of the country in 1950, which marked the beginning of CAT development into a big corporation.

CAT equipment ranges from track type tractors to hydraulic excavators, backhoes, motor graders, off road trucks, wheel loaders, tractors, diesel and gas engines, and gas turbines. CAT equipment is used in construction, mini excavator, building roads, mining, energy, forestry, transportation, and material handling companies.

Sales Over half of CAT’s sales are to customers in overseas areas. CAT products are sold in almost 200 different countries. The company has a worldwide network of over 200 dealers - 63 in the United States and over 150 in other countries.

CAT equipment and components are manufactured in 42 plants in the United States and 58 plants in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, and several other countries.

Labor CAT almost went down in the early 1980s due to the massive union strikes and a down turn in product demand. At the time, several news reports indicated that products were piling up so high in facilities that temporary workers hired to work the lines could barely get to their stations to perform their jobs.

CAT suffered yet another long strike in which the company hired what it deemed to be permanent replacements for union workers that were on strike. During both strikes, jack rocks were placed in the home entrances of many of CATs top executives and employees, puncturing the tires of their vehicles and making things worse for the company.
