A school bus driver was killed Thursday afternoon when his bus collided with a tractor-trailer on Highway 112 between Marieville and Rougemont, about 30 kilometres east of Montreal.
The accident occurred a little at the intersection of the highway and Rang du Vide.
Six of seven passengers on the bus, all students between the ages of 10 and 12 on their way home from school in Marieville, suffered from shock, while another suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was also hurt but his injuries are not life-threatening, said Surete du Quebec Sgt. Joyce Kemp.
Witnesses say the bus driver was attempting to cross the highway as the tractor-trailer was heading east toward Rougemont.
“There’s been at least 10 accidents in that spot in the last year. People underestimate the amount of time they have to make the crossing,” said Heidi Levesque, who lives just beside the accident site and whose husband, Stephane Goudreault, witnessed the collision.
